Despite trying to keep his attention evenly split, the bulk of Xander's focus was on sketching the scenery. As a result, he was only half-listening as Zac talked. He nodded his head every once in a while. A muttered, "Uh-huh." usually following shortly after. Xander had only just finished a rough outline of the chasm when Zac shouted for him.[break][break]

"Yeah?" it took Xander a moment to locate Zac once he glanced up from his sketchbook. When he spotted him, the older male was down by the mouth of the cave. When had he gotten so far away? Shrugging, Xander closed his sketchbook and stood up to investigate. He got attacked by a wild Shelgon about halfway to the cave's entrance.[break][break]

The battle wasn't anything climatic. A tag-team of Froakie and Larvesta was able to weaken the Pokemon enough to capture. Xander tossed a Pokeball at it with skillful precision. Afterward, he continued on his way to see what Zac wanted from him.[break][break]

"You're right, it is gorgeous." the desire to draw Meteor Falls in its entirety was intense. Maybe he would, but he wouldn't do it today.[break][break]

"But I think I've had my fill of caves for now. Mind heading back the way we came with me? I'd like to get one last look at the waterfall before I call it a day."

"Yeah, no problem," Zac said, having trouble tearing his eyes away from the weird formation. A mystery for another day. They walked together back into the covered section of the caves, back along the bank of the internal river. At the final cliff before the waterfall, Zac and Xander were stopped by a looming blue blob. "Oho, careful with these ones. They will send any attacks right back at you," Zac said, drawing a Pokeball. He walked over to the Wobbuffet and gently pressed the ball against it. The Pokemon disappeared inside.
"If you throw a ball it just bounces straight back," Zac said with a laugh. "Learned that the hard way and got a wicked bruise for my trouble."
They climbed the steps cut into the cliff and arrived back in the main chamber, the roar of the waterfall filling the air.

Xander nodded, listening to the older male's advice as they made their way back to the cavern's entrance. Even if he didn't respond, Xander recognized that Zac had good advice to offer. The walk back didn't take nearly as long as Xander thought it would. Before he knew it, they were back on the bridge where they'd first encountered each other.[break][break]

Returning both his Pokemon to their Pokeballs, he nodded at Zac. "Thanks for the help and the history lesson." both were things he'd needed. "Maybe we'll run into each other again sometime." and with that, Xander made his way out of Meteor Falls.

"Me too mate, this has been a blast. Hope you got some good art out of it." Zac watched the trainer leave the falls. Good guy, that one.
Zac heard a strange, springy sound from behind him, and turned to find a Spoink bouncing along the top of one of the meteoric ridges. "Dangerous place to be, buddy." Zac said to the dark pig, "I know someone that'll take care of you."
Pokeball in hand, Zac chased the escaping Spoink back into the falls. The day wasn't over for Zac it seemed, not by a long shot.
